Dr Orville Beckford is a lecturer in the Social Sciences Faculty at the University of the West Indies, Mona (UWI), specialising in Organisational Sociology, Industrial Sociology and Management, Institutional Research into the Teaching and Learning Process, and Sociology of Inner-City Communities.
Dr Beckford has a BSc in Management Studies (Honours) from the University of the West Indies, Mona; a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) from Nova University, Florida; a Certificate in University Teaching and Learning (CUTL) and a PhD in Cultural Studies (High Commendation).
This master teacher is passionate about teaching and is a recipient of the Excellence in Teaching Award in the Faculty of Social Sciences at UWI. He has also been recognised as an outstanding teacher, based on teaching evaluation scores averaging 4.5/5 for the last four academic years, for all courses taught in that faculty.
Author of a Book Chapter and numerous Journal Articles and Research-based/Scholarly publications, Dr Beckford still finds time to be actively involved in the public service. He is a contributor to The World Justice Project; a member of the St Catherine Red Cross; and organises and presents, free of cost, CAPE Sociology workshops high school students. The latter he does, to improve the quality of students entering the Sociology programme at the University of the West Indies, Mona.
