Dr. Coombs has developed over the years, a strong passion and concern for the family as mandated by God, primarily through his experience as a husband and Father, church lay leader and Public Health Specialist. In light of a growing body of compelling research-generated evidence, he is convinced that by far, the majority of social and public health issues being faced by nations such as Jamaica, have their Genesis in the home, in particular in the varying degrees of fatherlessness. In response, he has conceptualized the ‘Man Up Jamaica’ initiative issuing a call to ‘healthy, responsible manhood’ including Commitment to family as a priority.

Dr. Coombs has spoken on these issues at National, Regional and international conferences, including at the third Caribbean Regional Conference of the World Congress of Families in 2016, and through an intervention made on the importance of the family in achieving the SDG’s, at the 2016 World Health Assembly in Geneva Switzerland, as part of the Jamaican Delegation.

In February 2017, he was a keynote speaker at the US National Conference of the Fathers and Families Coalition of America, in Los Angeles, California.

He has served on the Deaconate of the Jamaica Baptist Union for over 25 years as a lay preacher, evangelism director and counsellor, and along with his wife Carol, has played a leading role in a family/couples group ministry for over 20years.

Dr. Coombs is married to one wife, Carol, and together they have been blessed with two children, Camille and Phillip, and a Son-in-law Khunchok.
